Well, hip-hop is relevant to what you deem good and up to date hip-hop
Prices vary form club to club:

From as low as 100 up to the 350 mark but the 350 is for "big" names and then there are the venues that if you aint on the guestlist get ready to stand outside like a idiot for a few hours.
People will shout out a few names of what they call good djs, but most are cd-boys really and lack real talent. (Putting a cd on and doing some scrathing doesnt make you a dj)
Clubs are mainly situated in LKF area: Hei hei, volar
and then there are the clubs in Wanchai... go out and see for yourself

Just because HK is a big city doesnt mean it plays by the normal rules... there are a few cds that use vinyls but not many...
Guestlists are not a must but a highly reccomended thing to sort out specially for the "best" clubs.
There have been a few promotional parties but havent been to any since I just arrived in mid-feb.

do you go to hiphop parties?

Let me, keep it polite and say "no comment"

Good luck trying to get into the business with the local clubs, I ve heard some venues you have to promise 50k HK (6400 US) behind the bar. Obviously that varies from venue to venue and the night you want to do your event. Best layout is Thursday to Saturday.
I would advise you talk to a local person since they think they know best about this stuff.

Again good luck and I hope you enjoy HK more than I am.

6400 US here is a fair bit since people dont drink much here, so even with astronomical prices and small quantities, it isnt a an easy task and it is very hard to motivate people to go to a venue other than their local. It is very word of mouth and they like that crap of exculsivitity and tables.
Here it is all about the money, if people could make 100k out of playing country music people would be doing it, so in that sense, diversity is very hard to find here... if you like something unique and good, hk aint your city.
The rave scene aint a scene since people have forgotten what raves are due to heavy police harrasement.
Dont get me wrong with the correct team, location and word of mouth you should be able to make a few coin while you are here.
