Little Dragon Live in Hong Kong

Special note:

For those who attended KOOP in 2007, we know that you were looking forward to hear Yukimi. She is coming this time with her band.... so you definitely can't miss!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gothenburg, Sweden is a hotbed of diverse and escalating musical talent. From the mighty Soundtrack of Our Lives to idiosyncratic songsmiths José González and Jens Lekman, through to the unpredictable pop styles from the likes of Love is All and Audrey, not to mention the infamous black metal scene, Gothenburg also boasts the dynamic, organically soulful pop sounds of Little Dragon.

Featuring radiant vocalist Yukimi Nagano and her close high school friends Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrick Källgren (bass) and Håkan Wirestrand (keyboards), Little Dragon stepped into the spotlight with the release of their first double A-side single on Peacefrog (home to José and Findlay Brown), ‘Twice’/’Test’ followed by their debut self titled album in 2007 with enormous success around the globe.

Born and raised in Gothenburg to a Japanese father and American mother, Yukimi says, “I grew up listening to American folk because of my Mom, but I’ve always had an affinity for R’n’B.” Meanwhile, keyboardist Håkan spent his childhood in the deepest, darkest woods of Smaland before moving to Gothenburg, hearing a lot of Swedish folk music, later getting into electronic and synth music. Erik grew up hearing early hiphop and jazz. “From time to time we have had to get side jobs,” Yukimi sighs, “but we’d rather stay broke, so we can concentrate on the band.” Their true vocation can be in no doubt based on this divine debut offering.

Yukimi is also very well known for her sultry vocals with Sweden’s electronica-jazz outfit KOOP on unforgettable songs like "Summer Sun", "Come To Me", "I see a Different You" while she and Erik also play live with José González.

Having toured relentlessly since their debut record, Little Dragon found themselves to be very popular in the US specifically on the West coast. After sessions on KCRW’s popular ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic’ show, their album became the most played on the station after Radiohead. No mean feat for the little dragons from Sweden, especially when they did not even have a US record label backing their forays. The track ‘Twice’ even got played on hit US show Grey’s Anatomy, and eventually the band were brought to the attention of David Sitek who became an instant fan (as did notorious basement dweller DJ Shadow) and asked them to support TV On The Radio on their US tour in May 2009.

In 2008, in support of Love, Little Dragon wrote "Infinite Love" for Cartier's LOVE charity, a track that was exclusively free for download for this campaign.

Little Dragon are returning with a spectacular second album "Machine Dreams" offering in August 2009, a pulsating electro pop epic that Prince would be proud of (only fronted by a beautiful Swedish lady with an arresting voice). A bold and surprising side/two step onwards from their self titled debut, released two years ago to great acclaim especially among specialist circles. "Machine Dreams", with its nagging hooks and gloriously infectious tunes, should finally see the band break out into the mainstream.

With disparate influences from Depeche Mode to Prince, LCD Soundsystem to James Holden, Dancehall to R&B, Jazz and Soul, Little Dragon take their place among artists who straddle many genres, yet somehow create their own and in doing so create “sounds that make time stop” (Yukimi).
