Durex seem to be too small compared to the ones in the UK, Trojan seems to be the best that fits in HK.

dj teng boon

You wouldn't spot teng boon's chinese roots by looking at him. However, this half-Chinese half-Dutch dj holds a very strong affinity to his Asian side. Real name Jef Cheah, his dj name is actually his Chinese name given to him at birth by his grandmother. So while most people who come to the party to check teng boon for the first time expecting to see an Asian face, they shouldn't be fooled by his caucasian appearance, because teng boon is truly representing both Hong Kong and China as one of the leading dj's.

Jef Cheah grew up in Sarnia, Ontario, a small town on the Michigan border where his parents met and married. Lessons in piano, organ, and percussion revealed a talent and interest in music at an early age. Being just up the river from Detroit, his passion for music found an outlet in a wide range of radio stations, particularly the african-american R&B formats. Jef found himself expressing himself on cardboard mats during the breakdance craze in '82 and '83. Then in '85, a weekend show called Mayday captivated him with a sound he had never heard, music that was mixed from one song to the next, music that was more funky and dramatic than his Dad's disco records he used to love. Derrick May's Mayday show was soon taken over by The Wizard (real name Jeff Mills), where the same early house and techno was scratched up and cut up amongnst a barrage of hip-hop beats. The excitement that these two Detroit pioneers created drove teng boon to start hunting down the records he heard on the radio.

After years of amassing many of those early club tracks, teng boon found himself in third-year university. Unable to find adequate dj's for the dorm parties he was organizing, teng boon took dj duties upon himself. His background in music meant it only took 3 days to get an adequate grasp of mixing, and before long several school events sought teng boon for his unique mix of underground club music. Following that were club gigs around town, most notably with Plus 8 records' John Aquaviva. But once studies were finished, teng boon could not deny his desire to return to Asia and plant his roots.

Once back in Hong Kong, teng boon formed a partnership with dj Christophe Lee, and took over his full-time residency at HK's top club, Club 1997 while Christophe relocated to Shanghai, where he became one of the city's club scene's founding fathers. At the same time, teng boon started recording work at Commercial Radio, which led to a live prime-time show featuring an R&B and acid jazz format, plus a mix-show on the weekends - HK's first ever. More club residencies resulted, and as HK's rave scene was giving birth, teng boon was usually a reliable choice for the warm-up slot based on his more soulful house sound and club experience. Eventually, this experience was called upon by HK's top club magazine Absolute to handle the club music section. With a writing style that is both up-front and honest while retaining a firm objectivity, teng boon had unexpectedly found yet another defining influence on HK's club scene.

During the course of 2002, dj teng boon has handled weekly residencies at HK's most influential clubs, including Drop, Liquid, Phi-b, Kee Club, and Club Ing. He's also managed this with a hectic touring schedule throughout Asia over the last two years. Local music magazine Music Colony rated dj teng boon as the #2 dj in Hong Kong. Now in 2003, dj teng boon is making the same influential mark on Shanghai as Entertainment Director at Fusion, already becoming Shanghai’s leading nitelife hotspot. The immediate future looks very bright for one of Asia's most in-demand and well-respected dj's, dj teng boon.

I suppose this is the problem these days with DJs, live acts and prices, the prices have spiralled out of control. We've got 2 quality top DJs that have played Zouk and everywhere around the world for the HKCLUBBING night in the UK and we can still provide a cover charge on the door for a little less than $60, that's a third of the price!
