I suppose this is the problem these days with DJs, live acts and prices, the prices have spiralled out of control. We've got 2 quality top DJs that have played Zouk and everywhere around the world for the HKCLUBBING night in the UK and we can still provide a cover charge on the door for a little less than $60, that's a third of the price!

hk simply doesnt have enough demand for these parties. so i guess it's either no parties or parties with expensive cover charge. obviously the organisers are there to make money.

Yeah i guess, but when you have DJs charging $5000 dollars upwards for a set (1 1/2 hours or 2 hours - quite some hourly wage I think you will agree) it's a bit of a ripoff to promoters, you have the likes of Superclubs and Mixmag to blame for all of this (why anybody would base a DJ on how good they are from a UK voted poll I will never understand), they have turned clubbing into total commercialism. DJs simply do not need to charge this kind of money, they never used to, even whole bands (who can play instruments and have to work a hell of a lot harder) get paid roughly the same or just above. International DJs should be prepared to wager a price that fits in with the current climate of wherever they are playing, if they don't like it then they don't have to play. This is what I'm telling every "famous" DJ that has contacted me for the UK HKClubbing night. Even Teachers and Police don't get paid that much an hour and some of them have years and years of experience behind them...

I don't understand how you guys can compare ticket prices for events in the UK to HK...

Obviously tix are going to be cheaper in the UK.... Promoters in Hk have got so way more overheads... ie., air transfer for up to 2-3 people [dj + maybe manager + gf/bf (business/first class at times) putting the artist(s) up in 5 star hotels (as to artist(s) request), entertainment fees, and on top of that a performance fees that they charge which is usually more than the fee they would charge in the UK.... and of course you must know that rent is high in HK...

there's no comparison... it's a totally different market and scene

I'm sure promoters here try their best to put on a good show and to keep ticket prices as low as they can. Do you guys remember back in the day when tickets used to be about $600 EACH???? I'm just happy that there are more diverse talent coming through...

Support what is here and the scene will grow... it's just that simple. And maybe from time to time email or contact your organizers and let them know what you want and don't want... FEEDBACK is good and ESSENTIAL!!!! Don't be shy..... but be reasonable

Yeah I know, the point I was making is that DJs who play internationally charge way too much these days, bands don't even make as much as DJs. If the DJs charged less (and travelled on their own! How is having their best mate or manager there going to benefit the promoter? Dead cash is not good) then that would reduce the door price slightly, every penny counts these days! And by the way, quite a few DJs charge the same price whether it's in the UK or abroad, doesn't matter if the gig is in their home country or not, believe me, I'm running a club night! At the end of the day, international DJs should feel priviledged to play HK and what's wrong with hiring and building up the local talent?????

It would also be nice to see some New local talents, getting a bit boring to see those same local DJs all the time, no disrespect to them, they are brilliant, but will be great to see more new local talented DJs, some of them really deserve recognitions.
