wow, some discussion. i sorry i missed this. i agree and disagree with all of you. so i'm just going to give you my general impression, as a short term (4 months) visitor from the states. . .and i'm asian-american if that counts for anything. anyways. . .

i think all my posts on this board have to some extent expressed my dissappointment with dance music in hong kong. . . but i think that's due to the maturity/amount of time edm has had to develop in asia in general. . .makes me appreciate the rich history of house/edm in america and the wide-ranges of edm, innovation and experiementation i can hear on a daily basis. . .

hong kong definitely needs more edm culture media to circulate. . .HK mag/BCone don't cut it. . .and some dj media. . .i still haven't been able to find issues of XLR8 or jockey slut around here. . . perhaps a mix show on the radio. . or at least a slot on public air. . .record shops also need to take a part. . buyers should be expanding their horizons. . .i've snooped around and their selection is deplorable. . .granted djs buy sh*t online these days but there's something about physically digging for your music that makes it worth playing out. . .plus underground record shops have always been key to fostering a good scene (chicago is the prime example of this). . .

where was i going w/all this? ah yeh. . .clubs. yeh, so i feel that there really isn't one club in hong kong that tries to push a new sound or school their patrons in some progressive (literal meaning - not the genre) music. . .except maybe level 27 and the one off events that get hosted there. . . but then, i don't relaly think hong kong'ers seek that when they go out. . .they go out to be seen, check out other people, get mangled. . have a good time w/their friends. . . which is what it should be about, too. . .but amongst all those people trying to have a good time, there must be some people seeking out the music, looking for some mind **** music to enjoy. . . .and DANCE ****! i can't stress that enough. . .i'm getting sick of being the only fool really busting out on the dancefloor. . .

sorry, this was a lot of rambling and incoherent requests. . . but one last thing, probably the one thing that makes sense. . .is that to really foster a scene with die hard edm enthusiasts and committed people who'll stay long after the trendiness has died, there's got to be solidarity. more organization. families. collectives. by locals. the music's always imported. . .the biggest events are some faraway int'l dj headlining a massive at hitec, ing or silk road. . .bollocks to that. . .more self-promotion. . . a local sound. . ."hk house"? just an idea.

it's gotten cheesy. sorry all. it's just something i'm very passionate about. and back home, i had many peers on this. . .but everyone i've met here (w/in the industry/scene) can't seem to have a vision beyond the dollar signs blocking their eyes.
