About Ministry of Sound
Ministry of Sound the club opened in London in September 1991 and has since established a cult following among clubbers worldwide.
Celebrating its 17th Birthday this year, the venue remains at heart of the brand as it?s where the story began and has also been the catalyst for the company?s many brand ventures and extensions.
Inspired by the US house music movement James Palumbo, Ministry of Sound?s founder and visionary, established Elephant & Castle in London as the venue?s location and opted for an unused bus depot for its infrastructure due to its raw and unkempt warehouse character that was the dominant clubbing environment of the early 90?s.
The vision was to import many of the worlds most famous DJs to the UK enabling dance music fans access to the music they adored and the DJs that played and produced it. And of course supply this on a soundsystem like nothing ever experienced before in clubland, an achievement the venue can still boast today. A vision that has become ingrained into the Ministry of Sound philosophy, as the brand now enables dance music fans worldwide access to their favourite form of music via a number of channels including internet, radio, mobile, albums, singles, global tours and venues in London, Egypt and Singapore .
For many years Ministry of Sound, London has been hailed as the ?House of House? as DJ input and musical output has always concentrated on the many genres of house music. As dance music has evolved, the club output has consistently been at the forefront of the scene with its DJ line up and musical policy delivering over and above the clubbing call of duty. Ministry of Sound is the only club in London to currently hold EXCLUSIVE RESIDENCIES with Pete Tong, Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg, DJ Sneak, Smokin Jo, Nic Fanciulli, Yousef, Mark Knight & Steve Angello.
Saturday nights at Ministry of Sound have consistently remained loyal to the house music circuit with the current Saturday Sessions inviting clubbers from far and wide to indulge in the many genres? that house music employs - all played by the worlds most revered and talented DJs and producers.
Friday nights have been slightly more varied in style. With the launch of Smoove back in 2000, an urban night that continued for five successful years and also the launch of Switch in 2005 which established itself as the freshest and most upfront of all the capital?s club nights presenting an eclectic mix of Drum & Bass and Hip Hop.
Ministry of Sound, London is a venue that not only started a worldwide music and lifestyle brand but also created the UK?s clubbing movement as we know it today. It introduced the DJ to the dancer, the promoter to the party and the establishment to the movement.
Alex Wolfenden Biography
2007 was another unstoppable year for every emerging talent that is Alex Wolfenden. Continuing his amazing residency at the award winning Cafe Mambo Ibiza, he also rocked the crowd regularly at We Love....@ Space Ibiza. Alex was also asked to do a special edition of the BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix broadcast on the 19/8/07.
2007 saw Alex dj with the best of the best from Hernan Cattaneo, Andy Cato, Kenny Dope, Louie Vega, Todd Terry, Dj Sneak, Junior Sanchez, Sander Kleinberg, to name a few.
Alex was so sort after over the summer of 07 that he was asked to play secret villa party's for the likes of Kylie, Simon & Jasmin Le Bon, Gizelle& Sienna miller.

Musically versatile at Mambo, Alex blends everything from classical music to techno as the mood changes from early afternoon to middle of the morning, not forgetting Mambos reputation for being the worlds most famous sunset spot on the planet!

It has been a whirlwind couple of years for the humble Liverpool lad, who has landed what he calls his "dream job". However, the 'dream job' wasn't handed to Alex on a silver platter. It has been earned through years of experience and by building a profile that any 27 year old dj would die for.
Alex started his run of impressive residencies at the legendary Liverpool club Cream. Working for Cream opened new doorways for Alex to venture out in the world of djing seeing him move from a national to international dj in a matter of months. In that time he took his sound to from the UK to New York, Los Angeles, Ibiza and Hong Kong.
When the doors to Cream were finally closed it opened another musical pathway. Joining forces with friend and fellow dj Yousef, Alex became the first (and still) resident dj at the award winning Circus at The Masque in Liverpool. This residency has seen Alex support a number of big name acts from Laurent Garnier to Layo & Bushwacka. At the same time as starting at Circus, Alex was managing the ever popular 'Play Music' record shop in Leeds, helping to keep his musical collection at the very top of the game.
So now you have met Alex Wolfenden the dj. Its time to be acquainted with Alex Wolfenden the producer.
Alex has been producing for several years now and has worked with the likes of Nick Fanciulli, MYNC, Sarah Main and Yousef. And already remixed International artists such as Fat Boy Slim, Style of Eye and Harry Choo Choo Romero.
Alex made his debut EP on Carioca records in Jan 2006, of which one of the tracks featured on Yousef's' Renaissance Frontiers mix compilation.
Alex's' latest release can be heard on www.cariocarecords.com and is already receiving support from Nick fanciulli, Paul Woolford, Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Deep Dish, MYNC plus radio play with great reviews from such as IDJ Magazine.
Its been a great 2007 for Alex Wolfenden, and 2008 is going to be even bigger.

Dan is a house DJ by pure passion. His style has been heavily influenced by the US New York scene, where he mixes up filtered disco samples (and re-edited originals) with soulful house and a lot funky breaks. His biggest inspiration is Kenny Dope Gonzales, and others include Louie Vega, (Masters At Work), Kerri Chandler, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, DJ Spen, Karizma & Armand Van Helden.
Despite his young age, Dan holds a great track record of clubs that include the top end of the club guide in London: Fabric, Pacha, The Cross, The End, Lime Light, The Rocket Complex, Nylon and Sugar Reef. Besides working with the biggest nightclubs, he also keeps his hands and ears busy with corporate clients, catering to them in high society venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Society of Arts, Grosvenor House and Noble Rot.
When off the decks, he?s in the studio busy with all sorts off work. The back-end work of the music industry has paid off for him after working with DJs and Producers including Pete Tong, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Seb Fontaine, Trevor Nelson, Gilles Peterson, and the Chemical Brothers.
Outisde of the UK he has made solid coverage of Hong Kong, Sydney and even made an appearance at Euro Disney in Paris. Now based in Hong Kong, Tai Pan Dan is set to push out the funkier sounds of house music at prominent venues, starting with a new mid-week residency with fellow DJ Arun R at Aqua Spirit ? one of the world?s most exclusive lounges.
Dan?s musical versatility allows him to cater to clients who require any of the following genres of music:
Rare Disco 80?s Soul Rare Groove
Northern Soul Lounge 60?s Soul
Funk Hip Hop Jazz/Jazz Funk |

Wow!!! Silverblack Card members go for free???
That's AWSOME!!!!!!
I got an SBC card and I got so much free stuff.....Just makes me wonder how those guys manage to pull off such cool offers.
I read somewhere that Alex Wolfenden is a Cafe Mambo DJ....is this true?
Also, is there a mix of Alex that I can download or check out cause I have a mix but the recording is really bad and mono sounding so I would like a new one to replace it.
Let me and the other HKclubbing devotees know. |
