Introducing Flat Belly Recordings – ‘Putting the beef back in yo belly!’
Doing exactly what it says on the tin and rolling out with some of the planet’s phattest electronica, Flat Belly Recordings hits you with the power of a steam train and the passion of a thousand damsels!
Yes, DJ/producer and co-owner of the now well-established 852 Recordings, Ricky Stone ‘felt like having another baby’, to cater for a more underground club sound. So in May 2008 Flat Belly Recordings was born, kicking ‘n’ screaming into the house…
And with the UK born, Hong-Kong-based Ricky as head honcho, FBR is a project that’s packed full of eastern and western promise – a label that’s definitely on the right tracks.
‘It’s all about music that’s full of Flat Belly phatness,’ explains Ricky.
‘The train is a-coming and it’s strictly for those with a taste for adventure and an appetite for contemporary big room sounds!’
Indeed, with a demanding DJ diary that takes him from Beijing to Buenos Aires, a stream of productions and an army of almost 60,000 MySpace friends, Ricky knows all about building families of like-minded party people… and putting the phat back into house. Ready to be filed under ‘house’ and ‘techno’ – and even putting a new spin on that vilified genre ‘progressive house’
Flat Belly Recordings is about having fun with the kind of underground future-tronic frequencies that you currently hear ripping across Ricky’s dancefloors without a sniff of so-called minimalism.
Consequently for FBR’s inaugural release Ricky’s proud as punch to present Montero’s three-track ‘Hard Drive EP’, featuring ‘Hard Drive’, ‘Tommy Pastie’ and ‘Goose Chase’.
Montero is a killer team comprising DJ Dee McAuley, who is currently based out of Hong Kong and UK producer Graeme Laverty (aka Brass Monkey/Sick Joke). As Montero their productions have been quickly snapped up by the likes of Renaissance and Audio Therapy and their Flat Belly debut is now due out in early June.
‘I have a lot of respect for Montero,’ says Ricky. ‘I think they will smash it for us on the first release. ‘Hard Drive’ reminds me of a 21st Century ‘French Kiss’ and has been going off big time in my sets all over the globe. Then there’s ‘Tommy Pastie’ in a San Fran vibe and a Brucie Bonus track ‘Goose Chase’ completes the package.’
To see just how hard ‘Hard Drive’ goes off, you can check out a video of it being dropped here by Sydney’s finest Mr Robbie Lowe:
