Is this your first time in Hong Kong and what are you expecting from it?
No i went to Hong kong about 1 year ago, but not to d.j, i had been playing in Indonisia and had a 9 hour stop off so i had a quick look round, but really liked the place, so really looking forward to coming. I have no idea what to expect, but i'll make sure it's a good night!
Can you tell us more about the radio show, The Global Network. And what’s the edge?
I started the show just over 1 year ago on Ministry Of Sound radio, and it's going really well, the show is now on 12 stations worldwide. The show is simply me playing the best music i can find every week, from chilled electronica through to Techno and everything else in between, it has a great Balearic feel to it in my opinion.
You are best known for your residency at Café Mambo, what makes you stay for 10 summers?
The free drinks to be honest! lol No, only joking, i love the place, i left 3 years ago, but i did sunset there before Roger Sanchez came on the other day when i was over there playing at Privilege, it just has a great vibe and an amazing view!
You have played at most of the clubs in Ibiza as a resident, apart from Café Mambo, which club did you enjoy the most?
They are all so different, i love Space on the open air terrace, the atmosphere there on a good day is the best i have ever seen in the world. Pacha is also amazing, it has the most amazing ambience, and vibe. And Amnesia and Privilege are so big and have something very special about them, so it's all good in Ibiza!
Compare to the past, what changed in the industry over the years?
Well years ago it was enough just to be a d.j and become successful, but not any more, you have to do all you can to get your name out there, look at me, i do a radio show, i write for music magazines, make music, do remixes and d.j so that's just the way it has got. And obvious change is how global the industry is now, i used to play just in the U.K in the early 90's when i started but in the last 10 years i have played in nearly 50 countries.
Can you tell us the best gig you’ve ever played?
It was for We Love at Space in Ibiza 4 or 5 years ago, i played Mylo 'Drop The Pressure' for the first time and i have never ever seen a reaction like it in my life, i was buzzin for hours after the gig! And i'm playing their birthday in 2 weeks in ibiza so i can't wait!
Who are your top 3 favourite DJs? Are they the one who influence you the most?
Sasha, Jose Padilla and Norman jay, Sasha made me want to become a d.j in 1989 and 1990, he was just so much better than any d.j in the world for me back then, amazing music, mind blowing programming i was blown away. Then from 1992 i was really influenced by Jose Padilla from Cafe Del Mar, who really educated me, so i was really ready for Cafe Mambo when i started in 1996. And Norman Jay has always been an influence, i grew up on Jazz Funk, Rare Groove, Funk, Salsoul etc and still love it and he is the man when it comes to that!
What are you busying at the moment?
Well at the moment i have started a record label with my production partner james Doman who has 1 of the biggest tracks of the summer right now on Positiva called 'Everything's Gonna be Alright', the label is called Heaven Recordings, the first release is James Doman vs Allstars ''Thriller' which as well as the original mix has a great remix from Rilthy Rich,i also just had a track out by another artist name of No Logo this is with another production partner Afterlife, the track is called 'Dark Star' and had a great Francois Dubios remix and was on Urbantorque, i also have another l.p project with james Doman which is about to be signed to a major label in the U.K and the first track will be out before the end of 2008. Apart from that loads of festivals like Glastonbury, Stella Polaris, plus dates at Pacha, Space and Privilage in Ibiza and gigs all around the world in places like Korea, Dubai, Norway, Denmark, Ireland etc etc, so yeah pretty busy at the moment.
What is your future plan?
To really develop the radio show the label and the music production and of course keep djing worldwide, and just have a good time enjoying what i do!
What do you want to be if you are not a DJ?
A chef, it's something i have always wanted to do, i love cooking as much as djing!
