Mercury Rev – Snowflake Midnight

Dreamy and tender, Snowflake Midnight is full of guitars, drums and synths, but with an extra big focus on the keyboard.  It takes a few listens to warm to, but the album is full of good tunes and poetically sweet song titles such as “Butterfly Wings” and “Runaway Raindrops”.  “Senses on Fire” is a song with hypnotic synths, keyboard crescendos and simple lyrics that make a simple, yet spellbinding tune and “Faraway From Cars” beautifully incorporates orchestral pieces.  Although there are only nine songs the band stretch the individual tracks to their limts.
