OPIA, the chic restaurant and late night lounge at boutique hotel JIA Hong Kong, has been named among Condé Nast Traveler’s ‘Hot Tables 2006’, their annual listing of the world’s best new places to dine.
A total of 82 new restaurants worldwide were included on the ‘hot list’, with OPIA as one of only two new Hong Kong restaurants.
The magazine hailed “Asian design sensation” Andre Fu for OPIA’s “low-lit dining room, decked out in sensuous hues from burnt orange to deep violet”.
It ranked the crispy fried pork hock on the menu as “an ever so sweet standout” and further stated that the “desserts such as the five-spiced panna cotta topped with Persian fairy gloss and the bitter chocolate tart ringed with raspberry chili caramel raise the bar on this epicurean island.”
Yenn Wong, owner of the boutique hotel, which was listed on last year’s Conde Nast Traveler’s Hot List of ‘Top New Hotels’, said: “It is an honour to be awarded by the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler again. We are delighted to be recognized for our contribution to Hong Kong’s culinary scene.”
OPIA has already been voted Hong Kong’s ‘best restaurant’ in this year’s inaugural SCMP/Harper’s Bazaar StyleAwards, honouring the most trend-setting tables. OPIA captured the ‘Restaurant of The Year’ award among 13 categories “representing the epitome of style” including fashion, entertainment, motoring, design and technology.
OPIA was also nominated in Wallpaper* magazine’s Judges’ Awards 2006 for the year’s best products, places and people worldwide in the “Best New Restaurant” category, together with the hotel’s Asian bistro Y’s.
The “JIA Boutique Hotels” brand is expanding, with the 60-room JIA Shanghai located on Nanjing Road opening in China’s most vibrant city in October 2006, JIA Krabi opening in early 2007, and the recently opened restaurant Graze in Singapore’s Rochester Park.
OPIA is located at JIA Hong Kong, (1st Floor, 1-5 Irving Street, Causeway Bay) and is open for dinner from Monday to Saturday from 6pm with last orders at 11pm (Closed on Sunday).
