1. Armin Van Buuren
Yes i know everyone is prolly thinking to themselves "oh god" but i have admired and been a huge fan of Armin from the very begining and didnt feel like putting a list of random dj's who no ones ever heard of just to make it look like im the only one who listens around. The reason i have voted for Armin is due to a number of factors. One being his radio show which is the longest running show by a dj (not including the EM) which he does for free and takes time out of his busy schedule every week for that matter. (200th episode is nearing..) He is also one of the kindest and most down to earth ;superstar' dj's you will ever meet. Just read the forum on his site to see how many people have managed to have conversations with him after his sets even when hes obviously tired. He will happily sign autographs etc for 3o mins after his sets and even then he doesnt want to leave. He has released another successful ASOT compilation as well as a new artist album due out this year. He plays some of the most uplifting trance you will ever hear nowadays and it is for these reasons that he should be #1 this year.
BIO
Armin Van Buuren is still one of the youngest major producers in the Trance scene, yet he has rapidly made a massive reputation, for both his productions and remixes, as well as his DJ'ing performances. Born in 1976 in the city of Leiden in the Netherlands, Armin has been into the production side of things since the early 90's.Freedom is something that Armin fully appreciates as an artist, and all the tracks on his compilations
are tried and tested, be it on the radio show, at gigs, or in his own living room. "Production gives you more freedom 'cos you can experiment more, it can be less obvious than djing. Whatever - it's the best life there is! It has to do with taste. I don't often get to hear other djs' sets, but I like that I'm not particularly influenced by anyone else. Some of my sets have influences of house or breaks, but I still have a certain sound that's my own".
Armin refuses to be constrained by the labels of genres, and says the spirit behind his brand of trance
has stayed true to its origins – "I was playing proper trance before it became diluted and commercialised, before it became a dirty word!" It's this total commitment to his music and making sure everyone has
the best clubbing experience possible that make him a leading force in this exciting and burgeoning scene.
"Trance for me as a genre refers to the old Oakenfold sound, the warm melodic driving music, not the euphoric cheese with vocals, predictable breaks and drumrolls that you hear now in the charts. There are a lot of different definitions of the genre, but to me it's just warm electronic dance music, anything from progressive to techno. Don't be a prisoner of your own style, is what I always say; don't get caught up in the bullshit of your own creativity!"

Infected and me, I say them once in brixton and the other time at alexandria palace, nearly saw them for a 3rd time in Brazil and I missed seeing them this monthn in JP. But I will make the jump to hyper-space and catch them in september of this year. Infected all the way. Enough said, if you ever see or hear their stuff you will know what I mean... Enjoy!!! :smt003
Bio :
Infected Mushroom are Erez Eizen and Amit Duvdevani (nicknamed Duvdev).
Erez, born 1980, has a classical music education, studying to play the organ since the age of 4. He has been working with music and computers since the age of eleven. Erez was a member of the legendary Shidapu group and also works with DJ Jorg (SST) as Shiva Sidpao. He released three CDs and numerous tracks with these groups. He also releases under the name I.Zen.
Duvdev, born 1974, has a similar training, 9 years playing the piano. He then turned into new wave / punk rock, as a member of a local band in the Haifa area named Enzyme. He was playing keyboards and wrote most of the band's material. One of the bands they used to play with was a punk rock band from Naharia (a small town in the north of Israel, near the Lebanese border), named Infected Mushroom, later that name was inherited by Erez & Duvdev, of course. All the guys in the band joined the army and the band ceased to exist. Then one week before Duvdev joined the army he went to his first trance party ('91), and from then on it became trance and trance only. Five years Duvdev was just dancing (and he still does when he gets the chance), and in '96 after coming back from one year in India, he decided to try and make trance music by himself. First he was working with Roy (another Shidapu member), they made 4 tracks together that were never released. Duvdev defines these as "terrible nitzhonot". Then he heard some stuff Erez made on his own and liked it. They met and started working together, making more victorious stuff for a while, which they both resent strongly. Then they started to work with serious equipment and left the realm of Impulse Tracker. They invested some money into equipment and started working together with the concept of Infected Mushroom.
Infected Mushroom's fan base has been growing steadily in the US in the past two years aided by relentless world wide touring schedule. This effort led up to a climax as Infected Mushroom's latest album - " B.P.Empire "was signed up by B.N.E to a major label in the US - STREETBEAT (www.streetbeatrecords.com), distributed by RED DISTRIBUTION (www.redmusic.com/redstory.html) which is regarded as a company that creates its own path and sets new standards of excellence for the industry by remaining the dominant independent distributor while efficiently and profitably supplying music/entertainment for the public through strategic alliances with innovative labels and entertainment companies.
We, at BNE, feel that the Infected success could not have been achieved without your support. We would like to take this opportunity and thank all of you for your contribution and on going efforts in this "never ending story"!

Nobody else will know him (except maybe the Aussies) but my vote will always go for Pee Wee.
The guy is a master behind the decks with awesome mixing, he absolutely rocks as a dj, knows how to play the crowd and can always be seen dancing around behind the decks having a great time. Its not unusual for him to play to a bigger crowd in Sydney than the headliners he's supposedly 'supporting'. And he almost ALWAYS shows up any headliner with his dj sets...
On top of his dj'ing he produced the track 'Genesis' which is including on John Kelly's Slinky cd, along with 'Europa' which is featured on Reactivate 18 compliation. Oh yeah - he also wrote the music for the 2000 Olympics opening ceremony. And he's a really friendly down-to-earth guy to boot!
Vote 1 Pee Wee!
Pee Wee Ferris Biography
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Sydney, Australia.
You dance to it, you listen to it and you play it  the music of Australia’s No1 DJ, Peewee Ferris has been flooding and shaping the Australian and International music scene for over 15 years. Very few musicians are lucky enough to have enjoyed huge successes as both a top DJ and as a commercially renowned music producer  yet Peewee Ferris has managed both of these roles with seamless style.
To sample his mastery, Peewee can be found mixing it up each Friday night for over 3000 techno/hard house/trance fanatics who have made Sublime@ Home nightclub a must do on Sydney’s dance music hit list.
In motion, Peewee headlines all major Australian dance events and tours, including Chemical Brothers Australian Tour 2002, Two Tribe Tours 2001/2002, the Perfecto tour, the Gatecrasher tour 2002 and the Sublime vs. Slinky tour 2002 , Ministry of Sound Tour, Big Day Out Festival Events 1990-2002, Utopia Events, and Fuzzy Events.
Internationally, Peewee has played to crowds throughout Asia and Europe and Africa. In 2000-2001, Peewee toured China twice, alongside Seb Fontaine and Yousef and was the first Australian DJ to play in South Africa at Freedom Festival 2001. Peewee also graced the shores of Hannover, Germany, where he was invited to play at Lovestern Galatika Meets EXPO 2000, with an international line-up and more than 15,000 party people.
He is often found sharing the stage with the likes of Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, The Prodigy, Moby, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Sasha, and Fatboy Slim.
With such a universal following, Peewee consistently receives both global and local recognition. In 2001 he was voted by Ministry Of Sound Mag, in the Top 25 Most Influencing People in the Australia Dance Scene. In 2000, he was voted by Juice Magazine as being in the Top 25 DJ's in the World and from 1993-1995 was voted in DJ Magazines (U.K.) Top 100 DJ's in the World.
Ironically, the largest crowd he has played to comes from the flipside of his career when he composed the music for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies. That gig earned him a staggering audience of over 8 billion people worldwide. More action on the production front has seen Peewee's very own massive club hit, 'Genesis', being recently released in the UK. This track is receiving massive exposure via the likes of Paul van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold, who called Peewee "brilliant". 2002 sees further international releases on Perfecto Records (UK), Black Hole (Holland) and TEC Records (UK).
Back in Australia, Peewee has twice been nominated for an Aria award for his album "Social Narcotic" and his Top 20 single "I Feel It" has been awarded an Aria Gold Record for production work. Peewee has notched up over 70 different dance remixes for artists such as Ultrasonic, Jocelyn Brown, Eternal Rhythm, Human Nature, and Men at Work.Peewee's pseudonyms include Evac, Slot Jockies , Asio and Pipi Le Oui - under which 'Funky Bus' was released, and is still being hammered by Fatboy Slim, Freddy Fresh and on Pete Tong's Essential Selection on Radio 1 BBC.
The cyber age has been fully embraced by Peewee and in May 2002 his new CD "Digital Domination" was released to dove tail in with the launch of his website - www.peeweeferris.com . The CD is the latest in the Down Underground series.
