Unity review from 1997!

'UNITY - THE GREAT HONG KONG HANDOVER PARTY.'
This will be the event for the young and young at heart to see and be seen at during the forthcoming Hong Kong handover celebration weekend. The organizers, dance event promoters SPACE, (affiliated with Hong Kong concert and event promotion leaders Arena) have assembled an awesome array of globally-hip talent. This will be a marathon 12-hour overnight session of concerts and dance music to welcome the birth of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The event will be spread over several areas of the newly-opened Hong Kong Trade And Exhibition Centre (HITEC) in Kowloon Bay. There will be live performances by the likes of megastar GRACE JONES, UK indie-rockers GENE, and Tokyo techno-darlings AUDIO ACTIVE. Further, and perhaps most sensationally, there will be all night dancing to celebrity DJ's like pop star BOY GEORGE (yes, THE Boy George!), mixmaster and Perfecto Records owner PAUL OAKENFOLD and the UK's BBC Radio 1's PETE TONG. Dub/Reggae specialist ADRIAN SHERWOOD'S 'ON-U SOUND SYSTEM' and local DJ heroes JOEL LAI and CHRISTIAN complete the opening confirmed line-up.

Tickets are priced at HK$580 (US$75) which includes access to all areas and all twelve hours of concerts and dancing. Organizers promise plenty of room to move, food, drink, merchandise (that's T-shirts and stuff to you!) unusual decor, all night bus service to and from the Kowloon Bay MTR plus about 750 car parking spaces. An additional highlight is the startling fact that this historical event is to be broadcast nationwide in the UK on BBC Radio 1.

Hong Kong will hopefully one day return back to that golden era of great parties... hopefully soon.... :smt020 but you must remember a lot of the clubbers who were around during those days have either a) left Hong Kong or b) have grown up.... so we're a lil short in numbers... as well as appreciation!!!

Get with it people.... parties will only continue if there are people to support the events...

UNITY was a word that died in way back in 97 and the world of 2005 is SEPARATE... there is no common goal... so sad :smt014

:smt018 This is strictly my opinion... I don’t want to check back and have ASOT and FANTASMA freak out due to grammatical errors and or name calling….

hi

Postby nick-w » 28-04-2005 06:02 PM

I did not go to Unity coz of the price and I had no cash.

I went to the cheaper version in Bar City, rocked, but I was lying on the floor at star ferry coz of dehydration.

Was not used to hk summer as I had flown back the day before.

Interaction and more f***ing interaction... If people listen to what the fans have to say and get from behind the military-state like police and start to have more colourful events... and I dont mean bring back the f***ing drugies... HK will rise like a phoenix and get back on the world stage again....
To all promoters I am willing to help with inovative ideas and help-out... so dont be shy and speak your mind either by starting a thread or PM me... :smt003

I love it when you are angry.... :smt060

Being serious now, everybody that has meet me... unless they were lying their t!!! of around me find me a nice guy that has an experienced mind on what clubbers and ravers wants... :smt003
