Beginning Thursday, June 8th, traditional Japanese Geisha pair with modern Japanese cocktails and cuisine at the hip Causeway Bay restaurant

Tapping into the growing popularity and intrigue created by the Japanese Geisha, WasabiSabi -- as well known for its innovative Japanese cuisine as it is for its interior design -- is set to offer a signature theme night, on Thursdays, featuring traditional Geisha as the novel attraction.

High-energy additions, catering to late-night revellers, are DJ King’s latest cuts and – for one night only -- live dynamic Japanese drumming by renowned percussionist, Kumi Masunaga.

Based in Hong Kong, Kumi is widely known for her exceptional style and versatility urging her fans to get up and dance! Kumi was responsible for the launch of 'Drum Jam' in Hong Kong and has studied with some of the leading drum masters around the world.

Weekly, Geisha Nights will run from 10:30pm to 1:30am.  And, while Japanese geisha entertain, guests may enjoy a range of innovative new sake cocktails, including the ice-cool 'Fuji Yamamoto,' a blend of frozen sake and strawberries (HK$85.50).

Lucky draws throughout the evening will also allow guests the opportunity to a complimentary cocktail, or to win a bottle of sake!

Behind a glowing red glass façade, on the 13th floor of Times Square, WasabiSabi sets a new benchmark -- in style -- for Hong Kong's new generation of trendy Japanese restaurants. Divided by a strikingly lit catwalk-like colonnade, it conjures up images of trendy designer venues in New York or London.

On one side, unique seating features C-shaped booths that swivel around late at night to face the plush red velvet “Lipstick Lounge” across the catwalk.

For private parties, two booths can be turned to face each other -- while the centre of the restaurant is dominated by two chic communal tables accommodating parties of 40 or more.

Behind the communal tables are more intimate tables for two, a 12-metre long sushi bar and private tatami dining room for groups of up to 16.

WasabiSabi's design concept -- by the Aqua Group -- may be far removed from its Japanese roots, but the high quality, creative menu remains respectful of tradition.

Appealing to both the palate and the eye, modern signature dishes include Taraba crab and uni tempura with crab roe miso dip; Home-made sesame tofu; Smoked eggplant wrapped in rib-eye fillet; and Carpaccio of sea bream with fresh wasabi red tea jelly and uni fried rice.

Traditional favourites such as shioyaki, robatayaki, sushi and sashimi are also incorporated, flown jet-fresh from Tokyo’s Tsukiji market.

WasabiSabi is at Shop 1305, 13/F, Times Square, Causeway Bay.

Restaurant Hours: 12:00pm to 3:00pm / 6:00pm to midnight. Bar Hours: 6:00pm to midnight (Sunday-Wednesday), 6:00pm to 2:00am (Thurs, Fri, Sat and public holidays). Tel: (852) 2506 - 0009.

Five New Options for Summer

Central’s popular Japanese sushi kaiten restaurant DOZO! is introducing new set-lunches that are a quick, tasty and affordable option for busy executives and workers - and perfect for Hong Kong’s hot summers.

Diners can choose from five different set-lunch options at the popular Japanese Kaiten sushi 'conveyor belt' restaurant in Lyndhurst Terrace over the next three months, starting from only HK$88.

Bento Set Lunches, presented in traditional Japanese lacquered boxes, are delicious all-in-one meals that include everything from starters to dessert.

New Bento Set’s include Chilled blanched summer vegetables with sesame dipping sauce and bean curd pockets with spring onion and dashi broth; Sukiyaki beef with gomi-yaki sauce and caramelized onions, plus garden salad with ponzu dressing; or a seafood option of Assorted prawn and vegetable tempura, and assorted sashimi. All Bento Set’s include Japanese rice, miso soup and fresh fruit and are only HK$88.

Chef Specials, a new concept introduced at DOZO!, offer a choice of either Assorted seafood chirashi or Pork cutlet rice bowl with bonito stock -- both with a side salad with ponzu dressing and miso soup. Chef Specials are priced at HK$108.

Diners can watch the chefs in action as they fillet whole jet fresh salmon and tuna and prepare fresh sushi and sashimi dishes. And, if this tempts the taste buds further, they can easily pick up these extra treats from the conveyor belt to compliment their set lunch.

A casual yet trendy setting for informal lunch meetings, a quick catch-up with mates or just to see and be seen, DOZO!’s set-lunch menus are specifically designed to offer a light and healthy alternative that is fantastic for Hong Kong’s hot summers.

They are also complete meals that diners can comfortably order when either alone or with a group.

Meaning “help yourself” in Japanese, DOZO! is a modern, fun and economical restaurant concept adopted from a popular trend sweeping Japan where customers normally select from passing dishes along a 60 ft conveyor belt.

Over 100 hot and cold dishes are alternatively cooked to order in the open plan kitchen -- from daily jet-fresh deliveries of the highest quality ingredients from Japan, including the freshest sushi and sashimi available.

DOZO! opens daily from midday to midnight at 44 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central.

Dim Sum literally means “touching your heart”.  It refers to the collection of savory dishes – stuffed rice rolls, filled buns, dumplings in soup, along with the very popular entrées.  Originally a Canton province custom, Dim Sum is always linked to the Chinese tradition of “Yum Cha” or drinking tea.

By numerous requests, authentic Dim Sum prepared by our renowned Hoi Yat Heen Dim Sum Chef Lau Chor Kwan are now available daily at The Middle Row Restaurant and Bar.

Chef Lau uses only porcelain steamers to cook and serve Dim Sum instead of bamboo steamers. He offers a wide selection of distinctive favorites including the crystal Steamed Shrimp Dumplings wrapped in a smooth and thin skin which is nearly translucent, the spicy but appetizing Pan-fried Chong Fan with XO Chili Sauce, and the delectable plump Conpoy, Fungus and Shark’s Fin Dumplings in Soup.

What makes Hoi Yat Heen Dim Sum so distinctive? Credits should go to Dim Sum Chef Lau’s expertise, his homemade seasonings plus the porcelain steamers that he uses.

Make Dim Sum at The Middle Row Restaurant and Bar a lunch gathering with colleagues and friends or a weekend activity with your family.

Dim sum menu is available daily from 12:00noon - 3:00pm. Two-hour free parking available with the consumption over $400.

Already renowned for serving the very best Mojitos and hand-crafted rum drinks in town, Havana is taking its famous rum cocktails into the kitchen with the first ever ‘Kitchen Rhum-Bar’ promotion. Throughout the entire month of June, our chefs are quite literally cooking with all your favorite cocktail classics from Havana’s Rhum Bar.

Experience a whole new twist on classics with appetizers such as our “Mango Daiquiri Chicken Strips” – Rum-marinated chicken with a mango and pineapple Daiquiri salsa ($78), or the pina colada cleverly incorporated into our “Pina Colada Ceviche” – Fresh seafood marinated with lime juice and cilantro, served in a coconut shell with a pina colada mousse ($96). A slight variation on an all time favourite is the deliciously simple “Brie and Batida” - Deep fried brie cheese with a raspberry batida coulis ($56).

Our main course dishes are equally mouthwatering. The “Mojito Lamb Rack” - New Zealand lamb rack with a mojito mint sauce, served with garlic mash and rum-caramelized zucchini and eggplant ($178), and the “Cuba Libre Sirloin” – a hand-cut 10oz sirloin steak is marinated overnight in rum and coke with a dash of lime juice and served with jerk gravy, thick cut potato wedges and a warm vegetable salsa ($168). It might look traditional on the plate, but just one taste and you will soon realize the difference!

Slightly more unusual is the “Mai Tai Duck” - Oven roasted duck breast with orange rum sauce and toasted almonds, served with sautéed diced potatoes and French beans ($168) and the “Rum Runner Swordfish Brochettes” – succulent chunks of swordfish and sweet red peppers served on a skewer with blackberry and banana rum runner salsa and Caribbean rice ($158).

And to finish, what could be more perfect with your coffee than a “Lime Daiquiri Cheesecake” served with whipped coconut cream ($54).
