If you like to frequent Soho just like us, you might have noticed a new spot along Staunton Street. Awtar, a Mediterranean restaurant and lounge is our recent fave hangout, and we'll tell you why. Check out their specials that’s got us going back for more.
With a cosy two-story interior decorated with decadent chandeliers and craved out wooden panels, you can see that this is a Mediterranean resto from a mile away. We love that they also added some cheeky murals of memes (refer to 9gag) inside their washroom to keep you amused. Their outdoor seating areas both upstairs and downstairs are fantastic for warmer weather too.
Menu wise, as a bar/lounge, naturally they have a large array of drinks, including your usual wines, spirits and cocktails. Their signature cocktails, or at least the few that we have tasted, are towards the sweet side. But if you’re a girl with a sweet tooth (or guy!), you might want to try out their in-house signatures rather than your usual Snowball.
Food wise, they serve everything from snacks to a full-fledged dinner menu in Greek, Lebanese and Turish styles. P.S. One Openrice review recommended the lamb Adana!
This place is usually buzzing, and with good reasons too. One of them is their smooth shisha that’s one step above their other competitions around the area (save from Boba). Offering fresh fruit shishas, ice pipes and more in their outdoor areas, you can easily sit for two hours plus just with your friends over a shisha pipe and couple of cocktails.
Another thing that draws the party peeps is their music. Named after an Arabic instrument, Awtar of course cares a lot music and the vibe it creates. On our visit we heard a mix of modern chart-toppers and throwback-worthy tunes that had us singing along. But don’t be mistaken, this definitely isn’t a place with music so loud you can’t talk, or one where you do shots. Well, you could… But it’s better to save that for the clubs. P.S. they also have frequent live DJ sessions!
What we love: chill vibe, great drinks and shisha, good music
Don’t go if: you’re not one for the SoHo crowd on Friday nights
Definitely try: their shisha, signature cocktails and Lebanese draft beer
Budget: Usual Soho prices, around $2-300HKD per head with drinks and shisha
