MTV: Music Television today announced that multi-platinum selling superstars and musical icons Coldplay and 50 Cent have joined the line up of performers for the â2005 MTV Video Music Awards.â Hosted by Diddy, the 2005 VMAs will take place at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami. 50 Cent and Coldplay join a list of previously announced performers including Shakira, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, the Killers, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, and Green Day.
âThe addition of 50 and Coldplay to the line up of performers solidifies the 2005 VMAs as the ultimate combination of hip-hop, rock, and pop on the planet,â said Christina Norman, President, MTV. âThis yearâs VMAs will have more music and more performances then ever before.â
It was also announced today that the 2005 VMAs will include appearances by some of the biggest names from the worlds of music, movies and television including Jessica Simpson, Lil Kim, Ricky Martin, Ashlee Simpson, Bow Wow, Eva Longoria, Nelly, Hilary Duff, Joel Madden from Good Charlotte, Ciara, and Alicia Keys, who join previously announced appearances by Usher, Jessica Alba, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, Lindsay Lohan, Joss Stone, Jeremy Piven, and Snoop Dogg. More appearances and performers will be announced in the coming days and weeks leading up to the August 28th event.
50 Centâs video for âCandy Shopâ is nominated for a VMA in the Best Male Video category. 50 Cent is also up for a Best Rap Video VMA along with The Game for âHate It or Love It.â His latest release, The Massacre, has gone on to sell over 6 million copies worldwide, firmly establishing him as one of the reigning kings of hip hop. Earlier this year, 50 Cent accomplished something that no artist had done since the Beatles in 1964, landing four singles simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100. He has just wrapped production on his motion picture debut, âGet Rich Or Die Tryinâ,â directed by Jim Sheridan (âIn Americaâ and âMy Left Footâ).
Coldplayâs video for âSpeed of Soundâ is nominated for VMAs in the Video of the Year, Best Editing in a Video, Best Cinematography in a Video, and Best Special Effects in a Video categories. Coldplay is currently on its biggest world tour to date â the âTwisted Logicâ tour â in support of X&Y, the follow-up to the bandâs Grammy-winning, triple Platinum 2002 release, A Rush of Blood to the Head. X&Y, produced by Coldplay, Danton Supple and Ken Nelson, is the third album from the band, which has won four Grammy awards and sold over 25 million albums worldwide since its 1998 inception.
The 2005 VMAs will be presented for the first time on multiple MTV platforms this year giving viewers new ways to experience the show. Exclusively through MTV Overdrive, the networkâs hybrid broadband channel, MTV viewers will have unprecedented access to the VMAs, beyond the TV screen.

Glastonbury well and truly kicked off the festival season last weekend, despite a muddy start the sun eventually shone with Mr Eavis himself tipping this years festival as the best yet! For those who didnât see the awesome set from Basement Jaxx, they were without doubt one of the highlights of the show. The Jaxx were initially invited as special guests of Kylies, however having been diagnosed with Cancer and her having to pull out of the show the duo where invited to play the coveted closing set on the Pyramid Stage and as a mark of respect they covered her anthem âCant Get You Out Of My Headâ.
If their Glasto performance was anything to go by, Creamfields is in for a real treat as they perform the headline slot on the main stage at this yearâs festival. Creamfields 2005 is looking set to be the fastest selling festival to date and already a massive 50% up on ticket sales! With Kiev lying more than 300 miles from the nearest seaside beach on the Black Sea, new Ibiza references might seem over the top, though if the Opium Beach Club upped sticks to Salinas or any of the other famous Ibiza strips, it would instantly be acclaimed as the best club in the world.
Because with its massive square dance-floor, semi-open air marquee roof and state of the art sound system, the 2,000 capacity venue is both a clubberâs club and a designerâs dream.
Nestling on the sandy banks of the giant River Dnipro, the superbly laid out club is both open air enough to take advantage of the riverâs perfect breeze and permanent enough to have a crystal clear sound system and a massive spacious laser drenched dance floor, with accompanying bar areas and raised wooden mezzanines all around.
Open for just two months every summer, the club plays host to the likes of Christopher Lawrence and Anthony Pappa, though tonight, on whatâs billed as an Ibiza night, me. Fortunately, however, Iâve been forewarned that âIbizaâ doesnât mean cheesy house, and instead Iâm under strict orders to play electro- specifically (even better) electro-disco-rock.
