ImageWith Kiev lying more than 300 miles from the nearest seaside beach on the Black Sea, new Ibiza references might seem over the top, though if the Opium Beach Club upped sticks to Salinas or any of the other famous Ibiza strips, it would instantly be acclaimed as the best club in the world.

Because with its massive square dance-floor, semi-open air marquee roof and state of the art sound system, the 2,000 capacity venue is both a clubber’s club and a designer’s dream.

Nestling on the sandy banks of the giant River Dnipro, the superbly laid out club is both open air enough to take advantage of the river’s perfect breeze and permanent enough to have a crystal clear sound system and a massive spacious laser drenched dance floor, with accompanying bar areas and raised wooden mezzanines all around.

Open for just two months every summer, the club plays host to the likes of Christopher Lawrence and Anthony Pappa, though tonight, on what’s billed as an Ibiza night, me. Fortunately, however, I’ve been forewarned that ‘Ibiza’ doesn’t mean cheesy house, and instead I’m under strict orders to play electro- specifically (even better) electro-disco-rock.

Faithful to supporting new talent Diesel enters the Semi-Permanent design event as major partner.
Starting from this year, Diesel will be using Semi-Permanent as a platform to present to an international audience “Diesel Wall” - the second edition of the successful “Temporary” Art Award hosted by Diesel on a massive public surface.

Semi Permanent will be held in London’s Barbican on the 10th and 11th of June.
The strong synergy's between the two projects have resulted in an exciting opportunity for Semi-Permanent attendees. Visitors will have the opportunity to submit their artworks to win the opportunity to showcase their works on the BERLIN WALL. A selected short-list will be also exhibited at the Semi Permanent events held in Sydney, London and New York in a purpose built booth created by Diesel.

Semi-Permanent is a unique occasion to gather the world’s most remarkable and renowned graphic designers and their followers, delving into the creative side of design and focusing on the passion that the international creative community has for its work.

Born in Australia in 2003 and yearly organized by Design Is Kinky (an interactive design site founded in 1998 by graphic designer Andrew Johnstone), Semi-Permanent has become a leading event on the calendar for those interested in creativity, digital art and animation on the Internet.

The festival comprises conferences, workshops and collaborations in which a wide field of international artists advance and share their technical and creative expertise.

500 m2 of vertical surface available at Oranienburger Strasse, Berlin

Berlin – After two successful editions on the 350 m2 wall located in the center of Milan, Diesel is now looking for radical talent to take up the challenge of the DieselWall Berlin with more abrasive, demanding shapes of art expression.

Situated on Oranienburger Strasse n.65, near Tacheles cultural center, this 500 m2 of pure potential offers a controversial platform for young artists to realize their vision that will be seen by hundreds of people a day.

The DieselWall Award brings contemporary art to a wide audience by using public spaces to define or re-interpret the surrounding territory.

Diesel urges rising young artists to use their vision to leave the mark on the heart of the city and the minds of its people. Diesel gives the selected winners the chance to display a temporary installation of their original artwork on a wall. A very big wall.

A committee of the organisation will select the submitted works and a jury composed of experts will select those works that will receive an honorary mention and the possibility to be exhibited for two months each on the urban surface Diesel Wall.
The activity calendar is as follows: from the beginning of June until the end of August (26th) artworks will be accepted.

On the 6th of September the jury consisting of Massimiliano Gioni (Curator Berlin Biennale 2006), Florian Illies (editor in chief Monopol Magazine), Peter Kogler (Artist, Austria), Dorothee Dubrau (Town Councilor of Building and Housing – Berlin -Mitte) as well as Kees Kreuter (Art Director for Diesel) will select the winners, which will be immediately communicated on the internet site

The two winning installations will be shown from the middle of September until January 2006.

Diesel believes in fresh and vigorous creativity, in new shapes of expression and in rising talents unafraid to explore original and controversial stages to express their talent. The constant and fervent creative search extends to international projects that take in fashion and design, film, music, new media and art.

英國龍頭樂隊 Oasis

英國大碟榜冠軍作 “Don’t Believe The Truth”

530日推出Oasis6張大碟 “don’t believe the truth”, 在過去一個星期的銷量驚人, 在英國亦是壓著gorillaz等對手的大碟銷量, 在剛公布的英國流行榜成績中, don’t believe the truth亦順利登上了no.1 位置.

I just started the first leg of my USA album tour with the first launch party at 1015 in SF which was an amazing experience for me.  I’m also really looking forward to the launch party at my new residency at Avalon in LA on June 3rd and playing in Texas for the first time.  Straight after that I’m touring Australia & New Zealand from 24th June to 3rd July stopping by Brisbane, 2 gigs in Sydney, Wellington, Perth and Adelaide  before flying back to the USA for more tour dates.  If you wanna hook up with me on the tour then go to for more info.

Summer in the UK is well and truly in swing and forecasters are predicting temperatures to rival those of glorious 2003.    The arrival of blue skies, ice cream vans and fake tan can mean only one thing… it’s time to take trance out of hot, dark rooms, and into the great outdoors.  Glastonbury and its ‘dance village’ has been and gone, and will be taking a break next year, but fear not... there’s still plenty of opportunity to ‘ave it large al fresco.

1st - 3rd July sees the Tidy Summer Camp at Pontins Holiday Centre, Hemsby-On-Sea, near Great Yarmouth.  Tidy might be more associated with filthy hard dance, but as their Weekender in March proved, they can turn their hand to trance with the best of them.  Big names are M.I.K.E. Push, the massively respected producer, Johan Gielen, the Dutch tech-trance DJ who stole the show at the recent Seriousworld II at Canvas, London, Judge Jules and Riley & Durrant.  Expect a young up-for-it crowd with a take no prisoners attitude to fun.

Next up is Tribal Gathering on 16th July in Luton, Bedfordshire.  Strictly an acid house event, it is included here because it is for a VERY GOOD CAUSE.  All DJs are appearing for free, and all profits are being donated to the crisis in Sudan.  Dig deep kids and get back to the old-school with Danny Rampling and others.

Global Gathering goes from one to two days this year, and 29th and 30th July see Long Marston Airfield near Stratford Upon Avon open its doors to a galaxy of musical stars.  The Global stage is where it’s at – Paul Oakenfold spins on Friday – but it’s Saturday when the real action takes place… German megastar Paul van Dyk, technical wizard Eddie Halliwell, everyone’s favourite Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules, Jon O’Bir and London-based Above & Beyond unite to satisfy even the most ardent trance fanatic.  Weekend ticket holders will also have campsite access.

Last of the UK dancethons is Creamfields on August Bank Holiday at the Old Liverpool Airfield.  Scooping ‘Best Dance Festival’ in the UK Festival Awards, Creamfields is one of the UK’s biggest and best loved festivals. This year the  Cream & GoodGreef Arena host Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren, Judge Jules, Eddie halliwell, Above & Beyond, Adam Sheridan, Nu Nrg (live), and special guest Paul Oakenfold.  As if that weren’t enough, K90, who delivered a show-stopping hard trance set at the Tidy Weekender, plays a live set in the Tidy Arena.  Plus of course the Beyonce Castle, podium dancing and circus performers.

The UK might have the best club scene in the world, but other European countries are actually really rather good at outdoor trance.  Germany celebrates ten years of it's first major open-air rave – Nature One – held 30th July to 1st August in Hunsrück.  The Open Air Floor hosts Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten and Blank & Jones on Friday, and Tomcraft, Kai Tracid, Westbam, Tillmann Uhrmacher and Nu Nrg on Saturday.

The Dance Valley Festival In Amsterdam on 5th and 6th August is another one that’s upgrading from a single day event.  Held in a natural valley providing the perfect acoustics for loud music, Dance Valley is Europe’s largest open air dance festival.  Eddie Halliwell, Above & Beyond, Ronald van Gelderen, and Ian Betts spin on Friday, but it’s all about Saturday… with Paul van Dyk and Ferry Corsten on the main stage, Armin van Buuren, Perry O’Neill, Remy, and M.I.K.E. on the Armada stage, and Randy Katana, Adam Sheridan, Ian Betts, E-Craig, Nu Nrg live, and America’s Christopher Laurence on the Eurogrooves stage.

Last up is Mystery Land, Europe’s oldest and probably most famous outdoor festival, and this year held on 27th August in Haarlem, Holland.  Three stages (count them… three) feature the cream of European artists, alongside some lesser-known but no less talented producers.  Paul Oakenfold, Marco V, Johan Gielen and tech house / trance DJ Benny Benassi appear on the Open Air stage, the Black Hole Recordings stage (Tiësto’s label) hosts Judge Jules, Cor Fijneman, production duo Mark Norman, Mojado (Live) and Mr Sam, and production legends Randy Katana and E-Craig play sets on the Madhouse stage.

And if summer fails to appear, worry not.  Next month’s trance pages will give you low-down on August in Ibiza… where it’s always summer.  Just how much trance can peak season squeeze in?

ImageOn May 18th, Diesel's Founder & President of Diesel, Renzo Rosso attended amfAR "Cinema Against AIDS" Gala in Cannes!

Renzo Rosso was seated at Sharon Stone's table with Lapo Elkann (Lapo is from the Agnelli family, and marketing manager of FIAT) and actress Dolores Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin's niece), who was dressed in Diesel jeans and Margiela's white smoking jacket.

Dolores is in Cannes to present her latest movie, "Enemie Publique", with Charles Aznavour.

I went to this place some time ago in the UK. We went and had a meal and some drinks in the afternoon and were enjoying the day until the staff shifts decided to change.

When the new staff shift changed the person who appeared to be the manager stood watching us and when one of us went to the wash room they said "go ahead little boys move along", this was basically them asking for us to leave. From what it looked like they wanted to sort out the accounts for the new shift and the manager wanted us to leave so that they could settled everything up.

We were quite surprised that such a restaurant would treat their customers like this and we soon left.

I filed a complaint to the head office of Pizza Express. Of course I did not event get a reply from their office about what happened. If you can help it I would recommend not dining at any Pizza Express restaurants if this is the way they treat their customers.

I just read on the net that the old Centro Club in Singapore has been reopened as a new club called Onyx.

I checked the Trancerepublic guys and it looks like they will be having a party there this weekend with Gareth Emery aka GTR. The address is One Fullerton, #02-02.

When HKClubbing returns to Singapore we will go any pay the club a visit.
