Savile doppelganger Neil Scott singled out the Jim’ll Fix It star’s achievement of being ‘the first person to use 2 turntables to create a continuous flow of music’ as one reason to vote, as well as his well known penchant for fat cigars, tracksuits and fulfilling people’s wishes.
“Every year our inboxes are bombarded with spam asking us to vote for some DJ or other in the DJ Mag poll,” Neil noted.
“Richie Hawtin? Pete Tong? Dubfire? Pah, they all owe it to the cigar smoking, medallion wearing hero that is Sir Jimmy, the man who invented 2 turntable mixing. Jim has fixed it for loads of people over the years . . .let’s fix it for him http://tinyurl.com/37e3ptl (Jimmy Savile Facebook Group)
A similar campaign also sprang up for Eurovision presenter and radio 2 easy listening institution Terry Wogan, this week, also highlighting the ubiquity of ‘vote for me’ begging letters sent by scores of house and trance jocks.
“Think you have one too many emails asking for your vote? Think someone else should get to the top of the pile for a change?” once such posting on dance portal HarderFaster.net asked. “Then vote Terry Wogan as one of your favourite DJs in the DJMag Top 100 poll.”
DJ magazine, meanwhile, dropped a broad hint that they’ve caught more than a few DJs manipulating voting unfairly, publishing a pointed message on Twitter.
“Just to let you all know.... the Top 100 cheats are currently under investigation,” DJ declared, “We will not tolerate rule breaking. Watch this space!”
