Tell us a little bit about how you got started DJing. Who was your biggest inspiration?

I started to go to Clubs in Frankfurt in the early nineties. At the time, I would say it was mainly Sven Väth and also Laurent Garnier who were my favorite DJs. I went to local clubs Omen and Dorian Gray every weekend; it was a really special moment in time for electronic music as everything was new and very exciting.

Will this be your first time in Hong Kong? Is there anything that you are looking forward to doing or seeing in particular?

I have been to Hong Kong before, it was two years ago when I played at an event with Nina Kraviz, but I was only there for two nights, so didn´t really see much. I had a great time though, and am really looking forward to come back. Hong Kong seems to be a vibrant and inspiring place with a lot of energy. I´m excited to return in July!

How do you feel that DJing and producing has changed over the last few years?

DJing didn't change so much in the past couple of years, for me at least. After the big transition from Vinyl to digital systems years ago, the routine is pretty stable for me right now. First it was CDs, then USB-sticks, now hard drives, but the handling is still pretty much the same. In the studio it has been constantly changing, from analogue gear to computers and back again. I always try to use the best of both worlds but also think it´s not really important what equipment you're using as long as you feel comfortable with it and find an environment where you can be creative. I believe that the most amazing music can be done on the cheapest equipment.

What was your favourite memory of 2015 so far and what do you have planned for 2015?

I just played at club Baum in Bogota two nights ago and it was definitely a night to remember with a crazy energetic crowd. 2015 is basically all about touring for me, and I also plan to go to the studio to maybe work on a new album in the winter.

What can we expect from your upcoming performance at Volar?

I usually try to sense the vibe of the night and crowd and take it from there. Apart from searching for new music every week and preparing it for use in my DJ-sets, I´m not really putting together playlists or anything, but try to step into the room and take it from there. I think that´s what DJing is about.

Aside from your DJ equipment, name your top three touring essentials.

Earplugs. Noise-reduction headphones. Backup drives.

What is the weirdest thing that you’ve seen from the DJ booth?

Couldn't point out a single thing…

Do you have any pre-gig rituals?

I usually try to get some rest before the show, especially when I know there isn´t a lot of time after the gig until the next flight in the morning. I like to have a nice dinner before the show too though.

Who in your opinion are the best up-and-coming producers at the moment?

Many Reasons, Timmo, Giorgio Rusconi, Loco & Jam, Enrico Sangiuliano.

If you weren’t a DJ/Producer what would you be doing?

I get this question a lot and I honestly have no idea. I never really had a plan b.

What tracks/ projects can we look forward to in the upcoming months?

I just released a remix for Laurent Garnier a few weeks ago, which really was a dream coming true for me as I´ve been a fan for many years. Also, another remix of mine was just released for a young French artist called Oniris, the track is called „Madness“. Next up will be a contribution to German label Moon Harbour´s 15 year anniversary compilation in the fall. Since it´s all about touring for the next couple of months for me, I plan to get back to the studio at the end of the year to work on new music.

What would be your dream collaboration?

To work on music with Martin L. Gore from Depeche Mode.

PUSH x Volar present GREGOR TRESHER will happen on the 31st July, more details here.
