Launched in 2008 by then unknown tech-house producer Clement Meyer, Get The Curse is now France’s best known music blog, attracting thousands daily to its mix of podcasts, music news and releases. Hugely talented producer Olibusta is also one of the Get the Curse’s key characters and chatted to Skrufff this week about the site.
Skrufff (Jonty Skrufff): Where should a new producer/ DJ start who is hoping to attract your attention and be featured on Get The Curse?
Get The Curse (Olibusta): “There’s no rule about that really. We’ve always worked very instinctively, ever since the very beginning of the blog. We check out stuff, we love it, we talk about it. I don’t think a producer should do anything to please someone else. Pleasing oneself is definitely the best way to start.”
Skrufff: What are the worst things they do; what are some of the more common mistakes you come across?”
Get The Curse (Olibusta): “Not saying hello at the beginning of an email.”
Skrufff: What’s your take on publicists/ pluggers: could it be money well spent to pay a promo company you know to notice an unknown artists?
Get The Curse (Olibusta): “Considering the amount of music coming out nowadays, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have someone whose job is checking out everything and filtering it out for you J A bit like food tasters during the Roman empire.”
Skrufff: How much attention do you pay to how many facebook/ twitter followers producers have? How much does it matter?
Get The Curse (Olibusta): “It does give an idea of how popular/famous a producer is, but is it that important?”
Skrufff: What advice do you have for a new unknown producer/ DJ hoping to get their name out there generally?
Get The Curse (Olibusta): “Don’t try to be someone, believe in yourself, work hard, have fun.”
