Tell us a little bit about how you got started as a DJ / Producer? Who was your biggest inspiration?
Both of us started as solo Dj's, experimenting with different sounds. We were both playing various clubs, Andy around our hometown and Jelle around the country. When we met, it was in an empty club and we enjoyed eachothers sounds so we decided to jump in the studio. Everything went superfast from there and we decided to keep working together as Mightyfools!
Will this be your first time in Macao? Is there anything that you are looking forward to doing or seeing in particular?
Yes, out of curiosity our booking agent is joining too. We're really looking forward to walk around and enjoy the culture, also very curious about the Chinese cuisine, heard it's really really good, but we love most asian food in general. Also we heard Macao is like a second Las Vegas, so some gambling must be done. And ofcourse we're looking forward to the show!
How do you feel that DJing and producing has changed over the last few years?
It moved from dark studios in basements to interaction with fans through social media. It's so easy to reach everyone at once these days, and also to set-up new contacts with other DJ's through twitter and such. The DJing itself remained the same in our opinion, or we might just be old-fashioned DJ's by now who just do their craft like we learnt. Producing has a lot of competition these days. A few years ago a release would last for a few months, nowadays it's old within a week! The pressure is definitely higher!
What was your favourite memory of 2014 so far and what do you have planned for the rest of the year?
This is a difficult choice as we've had a lot of highlights these years. Playing Ushuaia Ibiza was really amazing, but also playing for the first time in Indonesia, Andy's homelands was something special. Playing the Mysteryland Festival USA main stage on the legendary Woodstock grounds and touring India for the first time, rocking both weekends at Tomorrowland... and there's so much more to come this year! We're about to play Mysteryland in our homecountry The Netherlands on one of the biggest stages, right before our friend Martin Garrix, and afterwards we fly directly to Creamfields Festival in the UK to play homie Hardwell's Revealed stage. And that's just this weekend, 2014 is gonna be epic!
What can we expect from your upcoming performance at Cubic Macao?
A lot of new music, a lot of bass, jumping, headbangin', drinking, energy, and a lot of pretty girls. It's gonna be a great night for sure.
Aside from your DJ equipment, name you top three touring essentials.
Number one is the Macbook Air, it's battery life is insane, it's the heart of our music and our inflight entertainment.
Number two is our phones. HTC all the way, we're big android fans since day one. No moment without atleast one of us on his phone.
Number three sunglasses. Not for the sun, but to hide our face the next morning..
What is the weirdest thing that you’ve seen from the DJ booth?
We've been through a lot of crazy stuff all over the world, from shootouts to puking party people to passing out girls to basically everything. More recently last weekend in Bali, a guy undressed himself on the dancefloor and danced around naked for atleast 15 minutes straight. Humping other people and shit. We took a picture to prove it. Girls started joining in and our booth was flooded by male and female underwear. Crazy.
Do you have any pre gig rituals?
A bro fistbump, a wodka/redbull mix and we're ready to rock!
Who in your opinion are the best up-and-coming producers at the moment?
There's so many talented guys bringing great music out at this very moment, Wiwek is one of the guys standing out. You might know him from his track Angry Birdz or On Your Mark! Furthermore, Martin Garrix is one of guys that's just flying on a rocket of success. He's such a talented guy. He deserves it!
Glowinthedark is a name most people know but have also lot of new things in store.
If you weren’t a DJ/Producer what would you be doing?
Probably party every day anyway! Spending all our hard earned paychecks on big festivals and try to travel as much as we do now.
What tracks/ projects can we look forward to in the upcoming months?
We just released our single Shaolin on Calvin Harris' label Fly Eye, which was a huge success. It's still in the Beatport charts right now, and pretty much every big DJ played it. Hardwell, Nicky Romero, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, you name it. So the pressure is high, but we're working on a follow up! Inbetween we will give out some collabs on our Soundcloud for free, to thank all our fans, so be sure to keep an eye on that.
What would be your dream collaboration?
Any member of the Swedish House Mafia would do, just to look how they work in the studio. Their shit sounds so good on the dancefloor, no doubt we can learn from that! Other than that we're pretty much down to work with anyone as long as they have some good creative input!
Mightyfools will be at Club Cubic on Friday 29th August 2014.
