Spotted! From today until 31 March, the AIDS Concern Red Ribbon Angels Campaign 2012 will take place across the city. This year, the campaign is marking its 10th anniversary. Nineteen of Hong Kong’s leading bars, clubs, restaurants, cafés and lifestyle retailers are participating as Angel Outlets – venues that have pledged to increase public support for local HIV prevention and education programmes, and raise awareness of the work of AIDS Concern.
Why Red Ribbon Angels Campaign?
The Red Ribbon Angels Campaign is AIDS Concern’s annual awareness and fundraising campaign. According to the latest statistics on HIV/AIDS cases, released in March 2012, an average of one new person is infected with HIV in Hong Kong everyday. The total number of reported HIV cases was 5,270 – an increase of 540 from the previous year. Also, 74.3% of reported cases were transmitted through sexual contact. This upward trend indicates an urgent need for enhancing public awareness and safer sex education. AIDS Concern believes that if corporate bodies take the lead to spread out the safer sex message and introduce policies that reduce the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, this will not only help facilitate for prevention and low prevalence but will also help rebuild the confidence of those people living with HIV/AIDS.
Angels are HOT in town!
Angel Outlets offer their support by helping to raise funds for AIDS Concern, and by handing out safer sex kits that sponsored by Okamoto and distributing event guides to the public for free. During the campaign, a number of Angel Outlets will be offering Red Promotional Items and special Red Ribbon Angels discounts. They will also display donation boxes, where customers can directly show their support for AIDS Concern.

This year, Red Ribbon Angels Campaign also features two very special Red Premium Items. “The Red Army” figure is presented by OVO Group at HK$880 and only available in March 2012. The finely crafted figure is packaged with a red ribbon to represent its support for the fight against HIV/AIDS. 20% of proceeds from sales of “The Red Army” will be donated to AIDS Concern.
