Zowie──New Zealander Electro Rock Singer- Songwriter and Drummer
Described as “a tiny dynamo of positive energy”, Zowie has distilled a bubbling mix of vintage synth-pop, shimmering electro, playground chants and rock n roll swagger to create music of her own style. As a beat-obsessed adolescent, Zowie matched her encyclopaedic enthusiasm for drumming by mastering everything she needed to fully flesh out her own songs: vocals, guitar and programming. While studying for a music degree in Auckland, she created laptop crafted demos to garner airplay on national radio and in the past 18 months she’s performed at some of the country’s biggest festivals – The Big Day Out, Rhythm And Vines – as well as performing opening sets for the likes of The Kills and Peaches. Her debut single “Broken Machine” in 2010 rounded out the year at Gold record status. Besides, this song also brought Zowie the award of Best New Zealand Music Video at the Juice TV awards, and was also nominated at the New Zealand Music Awards.
