After the killer year that was 2014, PUSH are getting the new year off to an incendiary start by finally presenting the most influential techno DJ/producer to emerge from Asia - the mighty KEN ISHII.
It's always been a part of our mission to promote top Asian artists alongside big names from the global electronic music underground. It may have taken us a good while to get this one together, but PUSH headquarters is finally bringing the Japanese techno icon to Volar on Friday January 23.
Since he made his debut on the legendary Belgian techno label R&S Records in 1993, Ken Ishii has become the most recognisable Asian face on the global techno circuit. Along the way, he's carved out a truly multi-faceted career: from a fresh-faced young DJ spinning futuristic Detroit techno on four turntables, to the composer of the official theme tune for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and to the man behind a host of film and video game soundtracks.
Then there has been his appearance on the cover of Newsweek magazine as the face of modern Japanese culture, his relentless touring schedule throughout Europe and South/North America as the standard-bearer for Asian techno, and most of all his music, with some of his recent collaborations including techno luminaries Steve Rachmad and Marc Romboy.
One thing we've always loved about Ken Ishii's work is his ability to connect East and West through music - his sets are a masterclass that combine Western and Japanese techno in a way that is both futuristic and vintage, warm and cold, and human and robotic.
