Clockenflap Hong Kong Music and Arts Festival 2015

Clockenflap – Hong Kong’s premier outdoor music and arts festival – is delighted to announce its 8th-year dates for 2015, from Friday, November 27 to Sunday, November 29. Returning to the West Kowloon Cultural District, the legendary three-day event is a collection of music, art, culinary experiences and much more, aimed at bringing together a community of people who share a love for this beautiful city and its creative output. A festival bursting with passion and ingenuity and set against Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, the spirit of this cultural touchstone can only truly be experienced by being a part of it. Tickets for Clockenflap 2015 will be on sale starting from September 4 on www.clockenflap.com.

MUSIC: OVER 150 LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL ACTS
This year, Clockenflap expects more than 60,000 attendees to enter the festival site and once again discover a line-up full of depth, diversity and over-arching quality. Festival enthusiasts can now preview the first phase teaser line-up which includes The Libertines (UK), Damien Rice (IE), Crowd Lu (TW), Ride (UK), Flying Lotus (US), Love Psychedelico (JP) and Clean Bandit (UK) (see Appendix I for the full first teaser announcement of the 2015 Line-up). Clockenflap features an unparalleled spectrum of music genres including indie, rock, electronic, hip hop, Jazz, funk, soul and folk from over 150 local, regional and international artists. Celebrating the independent spirit of music, Clockenflap is also a vital local platform for new and emerging artists to make their mark.

ART: INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES
Art and culture has been at the heart of Clockenflap since the festival inception. Celebrating this year’s theme, ‘The Cosmic and the Communal,’ an ever-expanding visual and performing arts program, will be showcased in honor of both local and foreign artists.  Fans can expect to see the return of the film and animation tent, CINEMA SILENZIO, where viewers will enjoy a selection of short feature films and animations from Hong Kong and all over the world. CLUB MINKY with their world-class line-up of immersive theatre, vaudeville cabaret, circus skills, acrobatics, and comedy shows is back, and at a venue double its previous size, no less. As larger-than-life art constructions have become a defining feature of Clockenflap, the festival will showcase THE MAGNET PALACE, a giant pyramid structure serving as a multi-use, multi-media experimental performance space with sonic-visual kinetic installations.

FAMILY ZONE: CURATED ENTERTAINMENT FOR ALL AGES
Featuring child-focused stage shows, roaming entertainers, live kids song performers, inspiring DIY workshops, giant inflatable oddballs, baby changing and nursing facilities, there’s more entertainment and provision than ever to keep festival goers of all ages engaged throughout the entire festival weekend in a dedicated 15,000 square foot family zone.  What’s more, last year’s smash hit JUSTINIAN’S OLYMPICS is back by popular demand with all of its accompanying games, challenges and silliness. Children aged 12 and under can take part in all the festivities free of charge.

FOOD & BEVERAGE: A WIDER VARIETY OF HANDPICKED VENDORS
Clockenflap has always worked tirelessly with finest food vendors in town to cater to every possible taste. This year is no different. In fact, 2015’s food extravaganza will be more extensive than ever, offering festival goers a more enjoyable culinary experience through a larger variety of Hong Kong’s hottest and exclusive festival menus from the trendiest dining spots that will rock your taste buds.

MASCOT: ATUM
Our visual identity has always been central to the spirit of the festival, so this year Clockenflap commissioned German artist, Matthias Czaja, to spearhead the 2015 event. Inspired by mysticism, technology and future, Clockenflap is thrilled to reveal this year’s mascot, ATUM.  ATUM was created as the symbolic and graphic manifestation of our shared hopes and dreams for this year’s festival, which will capture the attention of the crowds by standing prominently on the festival grounds.

WHAT IS CLOCKENFLAP?
Since its debut in 2008, co-founders Mike Hill (Festival Director), Justin Sweeting (Music Director) and Jay Forster (Artistic Director), have developed Clockenflap into a cultural icon of Hong Kong. Cultivating and celebrating creativity, the festival is an unrivalled cultural mix of local and worldwide talent with a mission to inspire individuals through a journey of music and art.  Encompassing a near endless selection of activities, Clockenflap is a world-class festival that not only glorifies the city of Hong Kong, but encourages people to come together with openness and imagination.

2014 was a striking success which saw over 45,000 attendees witness memorable performances from the likes of: The Flaming Lips, Travis, Tenacious D, Mogwai, Kool & The Gang, Deserts Chang, DJ James Zabiela as well as local artists My Little Airport, Lil’ Ashes and Yuki Lovey. The festival also featured a Time Machine (a rendition of the 2013 Dinosaur Enclosure), Film Tent, and other creative collaborators including WENU Crew, Peter Holden, Start from Zero and Three.

This year, Clockenflap once more unites the best local, regional and international talent for an even richer collection of music, arts, crafts and food, raised in an atmosphere bursting with inspiration, diversity and edginess for people to share and spread their passions and love for Hong Kong.
