SoHo’s favourite Italian wine bar reinstates its much-loved Monday Summer of Spritz sessions with Aperol Spritz on tap at HK$58 a glass, or HK$198 by the pitcher for even easier pours, from morning until late. The lively but low-key series begins on 30th April, and to celebrate, the kick-off event will feature a lucky draw at 9pm, when giant 3L bottles of Aperol will be awarded to two winners.
Guests can snag a table from early morning or hang out on the porch as the sun goes down (four-legged friends welcome) in true Florentine fashion. The timeless la dolce vita philosophy means unhurried afternoons stretch late into the evening and a generous spread of savoury aperitivo bites complements the cocktails from 5pm through the night.
Despite Italy’s diverse regional culture, aperitivo, along with Sunday mass and football, is one of the only traditions that remains constant throughout the country and is firmly ingrained in daily life. The pre-dinner ritual of socialising over bitter liquor-based beverages such as Aperol, Amaro and Cynar opens the appetite, while salty snacks ready drinkers for dinner. Rooted in history, this tradition typically takes place in sun-soaked piazzas, with drinkers spilling out of Italian fiaschetterias, or taverns, onto the pavement.
The May Day public holiday conveniently follows Summer of Spritz’s return. A lie-in will keep the hangover at bay until those suffering can crawl back over for a Breakfast Panini (HK$98) with pancetta, eggs, chilli mostarda and melty mozzarella, and accompany it with house-squeezed orange juice, an artisanal coffee, or hair of the dog.
