Autumn breeze and the Harvest Moon signal the return of the Mid-Autumn Festival. To celebrate the festival of family reunion and happiness, the Wan Chai Cantonese elite restaurant, Flower Drum, rolls out two kinds of exquisite mooncake that will tantalise your palate with fresh and nutritious ingredients, including fresh eggs from Kyushu, Japan, and salted duck eggs from Hubei, China.

Smooth and Balanced - Hokkaido Milk and Custard Mooncake (HK$330)

Drum Custard Mooncakes are made with fresh eggs from Kyushu, which are known for their richer taste and higher nutritional values. The fresh eggs are mixed with top quality salted duck eggs from Hubei and Hokkaido fresh milk to create tantalising custard. As each of the three ingredients has a unique taste and flavour, the ratio of each ingredient is carefully determined to prepare the perfect custard and achieve the fine and smooth taste.

Traditional Plus - Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Double Yolks and Brown Sugar (HK$330)

While custard mooncakes have emerged as people’s favourite, this doesn’t mean traditional mooncakes are neglected at Flower Drum. Similar to the custard mooncakes, Flower Drum’s traditional mooncakes are exquisitely made. The key ingredients are the salted egg yolks, which take 45 days to cure from Hubei’s duck eggs. The process results in the egg yolk’s round shape, as well as ample oil content. The smooth lotus seed paste is made with genuine lotus seeds and brown sugar from Yunnan, which has lower sugar content. This helps to bring out the aroma of lotus seed and a fresher and healthier taste.
